First backcountry trip

I’m going on my first backcountry trip in early May (weather permitting). we’ll be hiking around 7km in to a site in Algonquin and staying for 1-2 nights and then hiking back to the car so nothing crazy.

I’m an experienced hiker but beginner level camper who usually camps alone so I just have a basic Outbound 3 season 3p dome tent that weighs just under 6lbs. I’m not overly worried about the weight because I’m going with another person so we can split up our load. It doesn’t pack down very small so it will be awkward to pack though.

I’m mostly wondering if it’s worth it to upgrade before we go. It’ll be 2 people, our gear (2 rucks and a small dog bed) and my small dog. I eventually do want to upgrade to something else just because there’s little coverage around the doorway when it’s raining.

Are there other reasons I should seriously consider shopping around for something new? Or should we be fine in this tent since it’s a short trip? I have been eyeing up a used Marmot Catalyst 2p but it’s a big step up budget-wise and I’m wondering if there’s enough room for all three of us.

Thanks in advance!
